December Refuge Refresh - Merry Christmas (Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing)

(You can access the actual email with formatting and images HERE).

Hi Refuge friends,

Merry Christmas! I hope you’re enjoying this season while it’s here. One phrase that I’ve used often in my life in different settings is, “Keep the main thing the main thing.” It’s so easy to get caught up with things that don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. We can get so busy and distracted with tasks and schedules that we miss the most important things right in front of us. For me, that’s my faith in Christ and my family. During this potentially hectic season, I’m reminding myself as much as anyone else: Keep the main thing the main thing.

As always, let me know if I can help you in any way. Have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!

-Tim

What’s the Difference???

Traditional 401(k)/IRA

Contributions are typically made before taxes, the account grows tax-deferred, and taxes are paid when money is withdrawn in retirement.

In short: no taxes now, but taxes later.

Roth 401(k)/IRA

Contributions are made with after-tax dollars, the account grows tax-free, and qualified withdrawals in retirement are also tax-free.

In short: taxes now, but no taxes later.

Great Resource!

For those of you in the Pueblo area, the Pueblo Senior Resource Development Agency (SRDA) is a great, local organization that’s mission is to provide programs and projects that enhance the quality of life for the senior community of Pueblo. From socials/events, to programs like Meals on Wheels, to transportation and home services, along with many other programs, services and resources—the SRDA does a lot to help seniors in our community. At Refuge, we’re blessed to be able to partner with the SRDA and serve with them often. (Website HERE).

Key Definition

Guaranteed-Issue Life Insurance

A type of life insurance policy that doesn’t require a medical exam or health questions to qualify. Approval is guaranteed, making it an option for people who’ve been turned down elsewhere or assumed life insurance wasn’t available to them. It’s not a good fit for everyone. Coverage amounts are usually smaller and premiums a bit higher, but for the right situation, it works well and can provide meaningful peace of mind.

Think about it…

Retirement isn’t just about stopping work—it’s about having the freedom to enjoy life on your terms. That might mean more time with family, traveling, volunteering more at your church, or simply waking up without an alarm. The question worth thinking about is this: What small steps are you taking today to help make that future possible?
