January Refuge Refresh - Here’s to a Great 2026!
(You can access the actual email with formatting and images HERE).
Hi Refuge friends,
Happy New Year! Besides a fresh new year and finally getting some cold weather, this January also marks the one-year anniversary of the Refuge Refresh email! In that inaugural edition, I explained my motivation for the email, “With Refuge, my constant battle cry is ‘Genuinely help people.’ Therefore, I’m always thinking about how I can be a resource and have a positive impact on as many people as possible.” That heart is still behind each edition I send out. I hope the email continues to be a blessing to you as an easy to consume source of encouragement and education.
May we all have a great 2026 full of personal growth, correct priorities and a positive impact on those around us! Have a great day and stay warm!
-Tim

Financial Tip
Uninterrupted Compound Interest
Compound interest means your money earns interest on both what you’ve saved and the interest it’s already earned. It starts slow but it’s like a snowball rolling downhill—the longer it rolls without interruption, the bigger it gets. Choosing financial vehicles designed to let compounding work uninterrupted over time should be one of the main goals of your financial strategy.
Myth vs. Fact
Myth
“Medicare will cover all my healthcare costs in retirement.”
Fact
Medicare covers many important healthcare expenses, but it doesn’t cover everything. Out-of-pocket costs like copays, dental and extended care can add up quickly. That’s why it’s wise to consider additional coverage options such as a Medicare Supplement, Medicare Advantage, hospital indemnity and dental coverage. And when it comes to long-term care, Medicare provides very limited coverage—so it’s wise to plan for that possibility as well.
Fun Money Fact
The U.S. national debt has now climbed past $38 trillion — that’s roughly $114,000 for every person living in the country and about $285,000 per household. Over the past few years, it’s been growing at an astonishing pace — adding billions every single day (Source).
(I’m sorry, I know that’s not exactly a “fun” money fact—but it is astounding and very sobering).
