August Refuge Refresh - School’s Starting Again—Breathe

(You can access the actual email with formatting and images HERE).

Hi Refuge friends,

August always feels like a bit of a “reset” button. Kids are heading back to school and schedules are shifting—or maybe your family is like mine and the schedule is chaos as you try to get your bearings and adjust to a new normal. Sometimes, it can be good to just pause…breathe…and remember it’s going to be ok. I know I need to do that more. (Doing this right now in my office is really helping actually haha 😂!) Sometimes, it’s the little pauses that help us reset and gain perspective.

I know I often say it, but I mean it—if you’d like a hand talking through your plans or questions (retirement, financial, life insurance or Medicare) I’m only a phone call or email away. Have a great weekend!

Financial Vocab

DIVERSIFICATION: The strategy of spreading your money across different types of investments so that no single investment has too much impact on your overall portfolio (i.e. not putting all your eggs in one basket).

Many in the financial world use the term to speak of spreading out your investments in market-based products. However, if all your money is in market-based products, it’s not really diversified, is it? What happens if the entire market hits a downswing? Therefore, true diversification means spreading out your money into various types of investment vehicles.

Survey Says…

Emergency Savings

A recent Bankrate survey found that nearly 60% of Americans couldn’t cover a surprise $1,000 emergency expense with their savings. (Source: CBS News & Bankrate

Myths vs. Facts

Myth

“I don’t need life insurance because I’m young and healthy.”

Fact

The younger and healthier you are, the MORE it makes sense to get life insurance. You can lock in coverage and lower premiums at a young age. If you wait until you’re older and unhealthier, it will either be much more expensive or, worse, you may not be able to get coverage at all.

PONDER

“Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny.”

— C.S. Lewis
