April Refuge Refresh - Congratulations, you survived Tax Season!

(You can access the actual email with formatting and images HERE).

Hi Refuge friends,

Hope you’re doing well as we wrap up tax season! I don’t know about you, but for me this time of year can feel like a whirlwind—gathering documents, crunching numbers, and maybe even facing a few surprises. Whether it brought some relief or a few headaches, it’s a good reminder of how important it is to stay financially organized throughout the year—not just in April. Little by little, those intentional steps really do add up. Setting calendar reminders for key deadlines, keeping important documents in one easy-to-find spot, and reviewing your budget every few months can make a big difference.

I hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend. As always, feel free to reach out if there’s anything I can do to help or if you just want to talk through a question you’ve been thinking about.

Current Events

TARIFFS! First the U.S. was imposing them on basically everyone. Now they’ve paused most of them. The news has had quite the impact on the stock market and a majority of U.S. retirement portfolios, forcing many Americans to endure quite the stomach-churning rollercoaster ride. While trying to stay away from the politics of it as much as possible (or at least remain balanced haha), here are a few sources you can look into if want to understand the topic more:

Great Resource!

I love passing along great resources that I find. Lifehappens.org is a GREAT website for all questions you might have regarding life insurance.

Their intro page says this:

“As a nonprofit, we’re here to give unbiased information that can help more people get protected with life insurance. We don’t sell anything, and we don’t endorse any particular insurance products. Our mission is to educate you toget the coverage you need.”

You should really check it out—there’s so much there!

Myths vs. Facts

Myth

“Social Security will be enough to take care of me during retirement.”

Fact

Social Security typically replaces only 40% of pre-retirement income, so it’s important to have additional retirement savings.
